Help Nour a hydrocephelus warrior from Gaza

Donation protected
Hi, I’m Nada and I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my friend Walaa, and her family. This is Walaa’s story:

I'm Walaa Jameel from Gaza, a pharmacist and a mother of five children. The youngest, Nour, is now two years and ten months old. I've been living in a tent in Rafah since the start of the genocide war on my city.

Nour's struggle began as a fetus when doctors discovered she had Hydrocephalus" which led to his skull's and head's size to double “. On 2/5/2021, she was born prematurely via cesarean section and placed in the neonatal intensive care unit at Shifa Hospital. Ten days after her birth, the 2021 war in Gaza started, leaving Nour alone in the hospital due to the difficulty of reaching her amid Israeli airstrikes.

After the war, brain surgeons at Shifa Hospital attempted to install a shunt for Nour, but the procedure failed, leading to meningitis and fungal infections in her brain. Due to the blockade, necessary treatment wasn't available in Gaza. Nour was transferred to Makassed Hospital in Jerusalem, where she received treatment and underwent a second surgery after several CT and MRI scans.

The doctors informed us that Nour had quadriplegia and wouldn't see, hear, or move throughout her life. However, we didn't give in to despair and immediately started physiotherapy sessions after the surgery. We also conducted tests for her hearing and vision, and her abilities surprisingly improved for everyone involved.

Due to the delayed shunt placement, Nour experienced seizures. After several episodes and attempts, they were eventually controlled with medications, including Keppra and Tegretol.

Now Nour has become able to speak, pronounce all the letters, her hearing is excellent, she has started crawling, playing, telling stories, and exploring everything around her. Currently, in the tent, we are facing difficult living conditions due to a lack of water and hygiene, which may lead to gastrointestinal infections and inflammations that could affect the shunt. Nour has also stopped physiotherapy sessions since the beginning of the war. There is no access to a healthy diet, nutritional supplements, or vitamins like vitamin D essential for strengthening her bones and aiding in walking. Additionally, there is a lack of necessary anti-seizure medications to control epileptic episodes.

Our house in northern Gaza has been demolished, and Rantisi Hospital, where Nour is being monitored, along with the physiotherapy center, has also been destroyed. My children's schools have been demolished as well. We are currently displaced, enduring harsh conditions of fear and cold in a tent that provides little protection from airstrikes or rain. Our children suffer from dehydration, thinness, and gastrointestinal diseases, and are exposed at every moment to the risk of contracting infectious diseases.

We appeal to those with a conscience to help us escape this genocide and support Nour's treatment journey.
