Update: December 18, 2021
Norm is being kept comfortable and the doctors will re-evaluate after the weekend. When the doctors lower the ECMO, his oxygen levels go down. So they have, for now, kept the ECMO treatments going.
Norm has received several blood transfusions during this time and they have worked hard at controlling his bleeding. Sometimes it seems to improve a little, and other times there have been setbacks.
Doctors may try to wean him off ECMO again soon to see how he reacts. So, to put it simply, this is a very difficult time right now.
Please pray for wisdom for all involved, as there will be some difficult decisions that will need to be made on all sides.
Update from Natalie (Norman's wife) December 2, 2021
They are discussing tonight with a surgeon about tracheostomy because he has been on the ventilator 16 days.
We have to see improvement on his oxygen with the ECMO machine. Which then would bring us closer to him being awake.
In talking with the doctors again, there is no time frame any of us can pinpoint. It’s day by day. Hour by hour.
But he is severe.
And there could be healing over the next 3 weeks. Or there could not. (3 weeks is a month of ECMO)
They want to see improvements within that time. Today is definitely a down day.
Praying for progress
November 28 update: My son Norman is now at the Kendall regional Medical Center in Florida. It’s a specialized ECMO Facility.
He is still having issues with blood thinners, blood clots and bladder problems. We should find out more today, what the next steps are. They are even putting him on the lung transplant list!
Some of the goals are to get him awake so they can give him a Tracheotomy, which would keep him stable while awaiting the lung transplant …
***Please continue to share this to your page again! Neither Natalie or Norman are working and could really use any help that anyone can give them.
# 1 UPDATE: 11-21-21
The doctor said Norman had an “episode” heart rate and De- satting (oxygen going down). They had to give him some paralytics because he was resisting the ventilator a bit, he was also uncomfortable, they said. So this helped him relax and just receive the ventilator. His eyes are swollen.

Hi!
Norm and family desperately need your prayers and help, right now.
We are reaching out to all our friends and family, and anyone else who feels led, to help support Norman and Natalie, Lil' Norm, Matthew and Lena through this horrible time of Covid. Norman has been in the hospital since November 2 and is now in an induced coma and on a ventilator.
It is going to be a long road. As of this morning, he is fighting a fever and 100% ventilator again. Anything you give the family would be so much appreciated and 100% will be given to the family for living expenses and gas to and from the hospital every day, and of course, towards hospital bills.
Initially, we hoped for $1000 to get started, but we are hoping God will open people's hearts to give abundantly more, showing the family how much we love and care for them.
Thank you ahead of time for anything that you can give, and God bless you for all that you do.
We will keep you updated here on this page.
Love,
Dad & Mom (Norman's mom) Paschen
