Help Nora's Family With Her Medical Care
Donation protected
Y’all, Nora and her family still need help! Nora is a very special girl with a very special story!
Nora was found last November emaciated and close to death! She was taken to the City of Taylor, TX Animal Shelter and her transformation has been inspirational. With lots of vet care, provided by Texas Critter Crusaders through community support, Nora began her journey of healing and her hunt for a FUR-ever home. Sweet Nora finally got that home about a month ago!
Nikki saw Nora’s story and decided she and her husband just had to adopt! She knew they were destined for each other. Nikki made the SIX HOUR round trip journey to make Nora theirs. From the day she took Nora home, they’ve been inseparable.
Then a little over a week ago, Nora suddenly had problems walking. She couldn’t keep her balance or even hold up her head. Nikki rushed her to the ER vet. After extensive (and expensive!) tests, the issue was determined to be neurological.
Nora's mom Nikki booked her an 8 AM appt. on Tuesday 06/18 at Central Texas Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Hospital in Round Rock. They had to leave Dallas at 4am to make it, but she knew Nora had to be seen ASAP. An MRI confirmed Nora had a degenerative disc near the neck. She was in a lot of pain and Dr. Vasquez thought surgery was the best option, carrying an 80-90% chance of improvement. Who could say no? Nikki could not – not after all Nora’s been through, not as bonded as they'd become.
Even though Nora’s surgery and care was going to cost close to $10K and her parents had adopted her just one month ago, Nora had already stolen their hearts. Nora was theirs and they weren't letting her go without a fight! And thank God they didn’t! Because Nora made it through surgery with flying colors. She’s doing just great! She’s back home in Dallas and recovering from the operation with lots of TLC – and lots of attention!
Taking on a big unexpected debt is always rough, but sometimes life can make it even rougher. In an unfortunate turn of events, Nora's dad lost his job of 11 YEARS the very same day as Nora's surgery. You know what they say? When it rains, it pours. Nora’s family remains dedicated to her recovery, but this was an unanticipated blow.
Texas Critter Crusaders always strives to help our shelter babies, even after they're adopted. But our current funds are basically non-existent with our latest influx of kittens and we're still recovering from the costs of care for an abandoned dog named Buttercup.
We’ve managed to raise about $500 so far to help Nikki’s family with Nora’s medical care, but we’re committed to continuing to raise as much as we can to help them with the costs. A $10K bill is never easy! Especially after losing your job.
Nora’s family never once asked for help with funds, but we know with Nora’s dad out of work, they need all the support we can give. They gave a forever home to a dog who needed a 2nd chance! And when that dog had a crisis four weeks later, they spent a ton of money to give that dog a 3rd chance because they already loved her so much.
Please help us support this amazing family as they embark on their FOREVER LIFE with Nora…the life Nora finally deserves. Whatever you can donate – $5, $10, $20. Every dollar makes a difference in the life of this dog and her family!
