edit: I have increased the goal of this fundraiser, as I try to secure a co-signer for student loans. At this point, I am trying to fulfill at least two tuition payment installments so that I do not have to defer my admission.

Hello! I'm a student in my third year of undergraduate studies, majoring in History and Philosophy at Bard College in New York state. I was lucky enough to be accepted out of high school to Deep Springs College , a two-year program in California affiliated with the Telluride House at Cornell, and a consortium of other elite programs. At DS, I was able to complete two years of academics completely for free. Due to this generous financial aid, I now only have to pay for two years of college! Additionally, I have been able to engage in a wide variety of work that was previously inaccessible to me (I have been working for a literary magazine, contributing research to writers and professors, was a fellow at a selective politics and humanities foundation, and attended the Iowa Writer's Summer Program for poetry.) I have also been working manual labor jobs since age 15 to fund the pursuit of my academic and artistic interests.

Unfortunately, Bard has put me on financial hold without notifying me in advance! I am scheduled to begin my junior year in late August. However, until I can register for a payment plan, I can’t register for any courses or confirm my housing. The kicker is, I cannot register without paying a fee of just slightly more money than I have! The smallest payment I can make to relieve this hold is roughly $2,500 plus a $35 fee!! Until I can pay this, I cannot register for classes, which are rapidly filling... meaning I may be less likely to fulfill credit requirements... adding up to... you guessed it. More time in school and more accrued debt.

Bard has offered me a generous amount of aid. I will only have to pay $13k for two years of education, and they have promised me on campus employment. Sadly, I am not in a position I witness many of my peers in. I cannot afford to be unconcerned with the financial aspect of my education day to day! Any debt that I accrue is mine and mine only to bear. (Let's cross our fingers for debt forgiveness & funded grad school!)
