Help Noodle Walk Again: Support his Habit and his Mobility

At the end of last week, we returned home from work to find Noodle limping and unable to put weight on his back left leg. He was still getting around, eating, drinking but we could tell something was not right.

After an initial $900 and five hours at the Emergency Vet clinic he was diagnosed with a broken femur that requires reparative surgery for him to walk again. The surgery he needs is called a Femoral Head and Neck Excision because the femur snapped off into the hip socket and the shards need excised from the hip as well as the removal of the rest of the femoral head which will allow his hind muscles to “set” the partial femur into place and will act as his joint allowing him to run and jump normally.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to cast or splint it so he’s been showing us his best mermaid poses and giving us short heart attacks as he struggles to slow down and be calm while we medicate him and figure out a solution.

Half of the veterinary clinics in town do not perform this surgery in house because it does require an orthopedic specialist so after calling approximately 40 vets in about a hundred mile radius we’ve been quoted (without seeing him in person and just seeing his X-rays and his file) between $4500 - $5000. We were hopeful to find it through primary care a little cheaper but it’s the perfect storm of doctors who are on summer vacation and clinics who are currently searching for specialists for their surgical team.

We want so badly to help him but even after emptying our savings to take him to the ER it seems like a long road ahead. We are able to provide maybe a quarter of the cost of the surgery and have already tried the applications for CareCredit but we did not qualify.

Please help our majestic land mermaid regain the use of his back leg so he can terrorize us the rest of his life!
