Two years ago I was a successful professional who could go on vacation and help people whose circumstances required a GFM. Since then, cancer and unscrupulous bosses have set me back so far I am about to be homeless for the 2nd time in 6 months.
I am that American who was a couple paychecks away from doing ok to, oh, hello: CANCER! Surgery, 2 rounds of complications that made my bp so high I fainted a few times, 4 months of daily radiation but then a good prognosis. Small hooray I got through and felt relieved. I could move on with my life!
Further complications began in October, with lymphoedema again causing dangerously high blood pressure. My dodgy employer went bankrupt in November. They owed me $7200 in commissions. It took several months for me to get a sliver of that -- $700. I have been underemployed and underwater ever since.
In September 2023, my rent went up $250 and then another $50 again 2024. That's a 23% increase in one year for dramatically worsened conditions with new owners.
About 8 weeks ago I returned to my terrible job of last summer because it was either that or no job. They won't be giving me full-time hours until the end of May and I am bringing in even less than my unemployment was.
Having recently returned to college in my dotage, I had been working with the school's Students' Needs Office and they were helping me cobble together various bits of funding to help me with back rent. As you probably know, those programs no longer have any money. I am cooked and the management company is finally threatening eviction.
At this rate I will never be able to catch up on my own and I have no family at all.
It's mortifying to be asking for your help, but my friends in my phone are all I have.
Thanks to you beautiful people I was able to send them $2200 on May 2, so they have given me a few more days.
I am 4 months- soon to be 5 --behind and have a $200 vet check-up bill coming for Toots besides.
