On Friday, September 27, 2024, my 77 year old folk artist mother, Nona Noblitt, lost her magical mountain home (with no home insurance), her car, and all of her favorite possessions when Hurricane Helene hit Sugar Grove, NC (near Boone, NC). She almost lost her life. We are grateful to God that she was able to get out of the house and climb to the top of the muddy hill as the flooding and tornado like winds ripped her house apart and threw trees on top of everything. She did this with a broken hip that was healing after having a steel rod placed in the bone! She is truly a strong mountain woman! I Iive in California and for days, I called her cell phone, but there was no reception. I called the police for help and they told me that all the roads there were washed out or blocked with trees and debris and there was no water or electricity. I can't tell you the fear that overwhelmed me with the thoughts of my mother being trapped or hurt in the hurricane.
Eventually, her grandson was able to get some local friends to go check on her and there she was alive, shook up, soaked and sore, but not broken. We have all been celebrating her survival, but now, at 77, she has to start all over again. She has lost everything. For her entire life, my mother has given her last dollar and love and support to anyone she came across who was in need. She's known locally as the Pink Lady and is a famous folk artist that built bent willow furniture and ornamental trimmings for mountain lodges. Now, she is older and can't do that work anymore, so this loss is a huge hit to her life.
I am asking for you to consider making a donation to help a magical mountain woman who has hit a major roadblock and lost everything because of Hurricane Helene. Anything you can donate is greatly appreciated and will go directly to Nona to help her rebuild her life and home. The entire property has been devastated and will require heavy duty clean up of trees, debris, damaged structure tear down, etc. She is currently scanning the property for her personal belongings which have been blown all over the place and most are just gone. Once the property is cleaned up, she hopes to rebuild her home again.
Thank you for your help and support!
*This GoFundMe Campaign was started by Todd Ray, Nona Nobilitt's son. 100% of the funds collected will go directly to Nona.
