Nomi is a 2-year-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi who needs help recovering from pneumonia.
She got spayed at Vetco in Glendale, CA on 11-27-24 and was normal post-surgery until 3 am on 12-1-24 when we noticed her intense breathing, so we took her to VCA Animal Specialty Group in Glendale, CA. Her x-ray showed aspiration pneumonia, which is probably from vomiting on 11-28-24, the morning after surgery. She stayed in an oxygen tank overnight to help see if that would help. Even though her vitals made positive signs of progress, her breathing was still abnormal, so she was intubated with oxygen on a manual ventilator. From then, the doctor recommended moving her to another VCA facility with mechanical ventilation and 24/7 monitoring. She is currently on mechanical ventilation at VCA in West Los Angeles, with a long road to full recovery. We wanted to give her the aggressive treatment so she could recover.
So far, the bill breakdown from her first visit at VCA Glendale to her current setup at VCA West LA has been around $22,000. I did purchase a pet insurance policy before her spay operation so she could be covered if anything happened. While the maximum reimbursement amount for her annual policy is $10,000, we are still not sure which aspects so far will be covered and when those payments will be deposited. We are extremely grateful for any help that is given. She would never give up on anybody if they needed help, so we are doing the same for her.
