SUPPORT CRISTINA - GET NOLOTIL BANNED
Donation protected
WHY DO I NEED YOUR SUPPORT?
Because I have been working extremely hard for the last 7 years, and continue to do so, in order to get this drug banned, which, apart from tremendous personal sacrifice, requires working long hours, researching, attending meetings, going to places, which sometimes involves travelling and missing work, printing costs... and I need help to be able to cover all those costs.
I have also created an Association of People Affected by Medicines (ADAF: www.adafspain.org) to raise awareness and protect people's health from the damage caused my medicines, in particular medicines which are prescribed unnecessarily. Although some medicines are absolutely necessary, others are not and still get prescribed, often putting people's lives at risk. Prescription drugs are the third leading cause of death in the world and I need your support to help me make a difference.
THE BACKSTORY
Working as a medical translator in Spanish hospitals, in 2017, I realised that a few of my British clients had had sepsis and some had died. I found this odd, so I decided to look into it. I discovered they all had one thing in common: they had all been taking Nolotil (Metamizole), the go-to painkiller and most sold medicine in Spain, but banned in the UK and in around 40 countries and for good reason!
I thought there may be more cases so, in 2018, I created a page on Facebook called Cristina Research Information, and embarked on an investigation by joining expat groups throughout the country and asking people if they had ever had a reaction after taking NOLOTIL/METAMIZOL. Little did I know I was going to end up uncovering hundreds of cases: people who had died, had been very close to dying or had suffered terrible lifelong consequences, like amputations.
HOW?
NOLOTIL can cause a sudden drop in white cells or even stop your body from producing them, leaving you exposed to infections which you cannot fight and a simple scratch or a mosquito bite could kill you!
MAIN PROBLEM
Nothern Europeans and, in particular, the British and Irish, seem to be particularly susceptible to this effect and millions of them visit Spain every year or are residents in Spain. The problem is they give it to you automatically as soon as you go to the doctor's or the hospital, whether you want it or not, even if your medical history states you are allergic to it or if you specifically say you do not want... You could be here on holiday, or end up in A & E because of a simple backache and it is very likely that you will be given this painkiller. The danger is always there...
HOW YOU CAN HELP
I have 2 objectives:
1.- To get it banned, at least for people from countries where it is already banned, as this would seem the only way to stop doctors from giving it to you all.
2.- To claim compensation for those affected, which involves having meetings with lawyers and incurring costs.
PLEASE, HELP AS MUCH, OR AS LITTLE, AS YOU CAN AND SHARE THIS WITH OTHERS BECAUSE THE MORE HELP I CAN GET, THE SOONER I WILL BE ABLE TO PUT AN END TO THIS.
One thing is having some adverse effects, like vomiting or diarrhea, but, PUTTING YOUR LIFE AT RISK FOR THE SAKE OF A PAINKILLER, JUST CANNOT BE RIGHT.
