UPDATE 2: Nola started to do better once she had another steroid increase. Unfortunately, after trying to taper her down again, she declined a lot more. She paces around panting in pain even on pain medicine. We believe she re-injured herself since she isn’t fully healed. She makes low yelps sometimes when trying to lay down or stepping down from the sidewalk to the street, etc. we first tried conservative management but it seems like surgery might be what I need to do for her. She is healthy otherwise and has a 90% prognosis with surgery. It would relieve her of her pain. She was so happy to be feeling good again and I hate to see her like this.
UPDATE:
Nola has declined slightly and was put back on the higher dose of steroids. She is still going to physical therapy once weekly instead of twice a week now. She is able to walk and I do take her around the small block. She's improving every day and I am hopeful that she makes a full recovery!
Hey Friends and Family,
As many of you know, I recently came home from work to find that Nola couldn’t walk at all. After several emotional days preparing for the worst, hearing words like “tumors” and “cancer,” we finally discovered the cause.. a herniated disc in her spine. While I’m incredibly relieved, the vet bills are significant, and the decisions about her care came fast.
Some of you may also know that Nola and I were involved in a dog attack in February 2023, which left me financially strained with my own medical bills ($18,000) and lost wages to no fault
of my own. Nothing came of the lawsuit because they didn’t have money and skipped out on court. There’s now a warrant out for his arrest, but there are no garnished wages. I want to give Nola the best care possible, but I can’t do it alone.
Nola has been with me since she was just 3 months old, and through every challenge life has thrown at us, she’s been by my side. She is loyal, loving, and always making everyone’s day a little brighter. From car rides where people smile and wave at her to neighborhood walks where she’s made countless friends, Nola has always been the kind of dog who brings joy to everyone around her.
She’s lived such an active, happy life, and I want to keep her on the move. My goal is not only to cover her vet bills but also to get her a wheelchair so she can continue enjoying her walks and adventures while she is healing throughout the next 6 months +.
I know times are tough for everyone, so please don’t feel obligated to donate. But if you can, any amount would mean the world to both of us. Let’s help Nola live out her senior years with the joy she deserves.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
