Today, we’re asking for support — not just for ourselves, but for someone deeply loved by many. Noël, my partner and a beloved friend in the Sayulita community, was recently in a life-altering accident deep in the jungle of Mexico. While he was a passenger, the vehicle flipped on a curve and landed directly on his leg, crushing it. He’s had multiple surgeries since, and we are still in a critical phase.
For nearly two months now, Noël has been in and out of the hospital, battling two rare and aggressive infections. He’s connected to a VAC (Vacuum-Assisted Closure) system to help his wound heal — a crucial but extremely expensive machine — and is being treated with rare antibiotics. Without this treatment, there’s a very real risk of losing his foot. Doctors have warned us that more interventions will be necessary in the weeks ahead.
This situation is even more heartbreaking because Noël lost both of his parents in a tragic car accident a few years ago and is now facing this crisis without close family. His emotional support dog, Oakley (pictured), along with two other dogs he lovingly adopted here in Mexico, are his family.
Noël was once endlessly active — always outdoors hiking, surfing, working with his hands, exploring the world. Losing his independence and mobility has been devastating, but every day he shows immense strength, patience, and courage. He’s fighting so hard to get through this.
Since the accident, I (Laura) have been doing everything I can — caring for Noël around the clock, working part-time to keep us going, and taking care of his three dogs. Our days are filled with wound cleanings, hospital visits, emotional ups and downs, and so many unknowns. We’re holding it together the best we can, but it’s become more than we can handle alone.
Friends from all over the world, and my own family, have shown us incredible love and support — and we are so thankful. Now, with the bills growing and the need for urgent care and travel mounting, we are turning to the global community for help.
Our greatest hope is to get Noël back to his home country, Canada, where he can access public healthcare and be surrounded by the love and support of family and friends. But the ongoing costs are far beyond what we can cover on our own.
This is where we need you.
Your donation will help cover:
• Urgent antibiotics and VAC wound therapy
• Future surgical interventions
• Ongoing hospital and wound care
• Medical evacuation to Canada
• Support in caring for Noël’s dogs
No amount is too small. Every donation brings us closer to stability, safety, and healing. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing our story. Our local community in Sayulita has rallied behind us — now we’re asking the wider world to stand with us too.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading, for caring, and for walking beside us during this difficult chapter.
With all our love and gratitude,
Laura & Alice
