Marine Corps veteran lost his home in the Los Angeles fire.
I've been involved with veterans organizations for nearly two decades. Along the way I have been fortunate to work with some great people. Noe is one of those great people who I have personally known to go above and beyond to help fellow veterans. He's that friend who you call when you need to move something heavy. He's also passionate about doing things that actually have positive effect on veterans and the community.
The first night of the fires he was in class at UCLA when he learned of the evacuation. By the time his class ended he would have only his motorcycle, and the backpack he brought to class. The fire had devastated his entire neighborhood.
He was put up temporarily on the UCLA campus, but would be evacuated a second time two days later as the fire continued to rage. That night he was on his way to Palmdale, CA, about an hour drive from Los Angeles, to stay with a friend. Dangerous winds were still gusting, and he hit debris on the freeway that damaged the wheel on his motorcycle. Thankfully he was ok, but the bike got damaged causing him to need a $1,200 repair on top of figuring out what to do next.
What he has to do next includes getting into a place to live.
A New Home: Deposits, rent, and utilities just to get started. The average cost of rent in the vicinity of UCLA where he is a full time student is exceptionally high.
Furniture and Essential Items: The very real cost of replacing everything from not only a bed and bedding, but every single thing down to the vegetable peeler in the drawer, and everyday items to restore a sense of stability.
Vehicle: Reliable transportation is essential, and Noe had to pay for an expensive repair on his motorcycle, which is currently his only means of transportation. He has also needed to rent a car to accomplish some travel and transportation requirements for his school program.
So many kind friends and family from across the country have reached out to ask how they can help, and this is how: please contribute whatever you are able give to our effort to help Noe, a great guy who has always helped his country, his community, and his friends.
