My dear friend Shannon Beck, owner of Nodest Home Plants, has spent the last five years growing something truly special in downtown Omaha — a little urban jungle where people could find not just plants, but community, calm, and creativity.
But right now, Nodest is in crisis. The city’s ongoing streetcar construction has made it nearly impossible for customers to reach the shop. Roads are torn up, parking is gone, and foot traffic has vanished. Sales have dropped over 65%, and while city leaders promised relief for affected small businesses, nothing has come for this area.
Bad Seed Coffee, the beloved café that shared the space with Nodest, was forced to close in September. Shannon is fighting to keep her business alive — but she can’t do it alone.
So we’re asking our community to come together and help Nodest replant its roots in a new, thriving space in Blackstone — where there’s parking, stability, and hope. The new location is a blank slate: bare floors, no lighting, and a big buildout ahead. Shannon is determined to reopen, keep paying her amazing team, and continue offering the workshops and plant joy that so many of us love.
Our goal: $25,000
This will help cover:
- Payroll for Shannon and her small staff while construction halts business
- Rent and deposit for the new Blackstone location
- Basic buildout costs (lighting, flooring, paint, fixtures)
Every dollar helps Nodest survive this storm and grow toward the light again. Omaha’s small businesses deserve better than to be left in the dirt by city projects — so let’s show up for Shannon and prove what real community looks like.
Let’s keep Nodest thriving — because a city without its small businesses is a city without roots.
