Hey y’all, we recently had a much-needed addition to our fur baby family. Noche is the sweetest lab/pit mix shipped all the way up from Texas where she was considered a “Code Red”, meaning she was next on the list for euthanasia due to shelters being over capacity. Her arrival came soon after the hard loss of both of Joel and I’s senior dog and cat (Tuna and Taino), which was painful and costly.

While the shelter that rescued Noche did the best they could, she came to us with a severe case of heartworm. The shelter was able to help us pay for preventative treatment that will stop it from progressing, but we found out yesterday that we will most likely be financially responsible for the treatment to kill off the worms that currently live in her heart. The estimate for her treatment is about $2k, not including x-rays and bloodwork that will be needed to monitor the progress of this intense medication.

Deciding not to treat this part of her disease could cause her to pass away much sooner than we are ready for as she is only 5 or 6 years old.

As many of you know, the past two years have been full of intense medical episodes that have required all of our time and resources to bounce back from. Joel finally went back to work this summer after taking a year off to recover and has finally been able to start working on his passion project of remodeling our kitchen, but his pain and side effects from chemo and the cancer itself are preventing him from working much in general, let alone working on the house. Times have been tough lately. Thanks for the help!
