Hello friends!
I just completed a solo bicycle tour from San Francisco to Los Angeles. It was filled with rad gravel ascents, incredible ocean views, algae I harvested to contribute to a Thanksgiving feast, many cans of Trader Joe's sardines, and a collection of the most generous and welcoming people I have ever met. Thank you to all who supported me and contributed to making this bike tour such a success! You can see my 732 mile route here: https://ridewithgps.com/ride_reports/7455-solo-not-alone
Ok, here's the bummer. Once I got to LA, I biked over to a shopping center to get my flu shot and some groceries. I locked up my bike and ran my errands, but 1.5 hours later, when I went to unlock my bike and ride home, my bike was gone. It's LA, so the police were not willing to help me find my bicycle (and in a city this big, I sort of don't blame them).
I am able to put some funds towards a new bike, but this is a pretty big loss, financially and emotionally. I rely on my bicycle for sport and transport: it’s what get’s me up in the morning, and what keeps me rolling. It’s more than just a material object. And if you’ve talked to me on the phone, you’ve likely been with me on my bicycle.
Here’s the breakdown of what I lost:
$2000 Merckx Eeklo 70 bicycle
$550 Big Agnes tent (that was in my frame bag)
$165 Ortleib frame bag
Right before I started this ride I replaced my chain and cassette ($200) and put suitable tires on ($100), so I lost those improvements too.
Any thing you can donate will greatly help me get rolling again. Thank you in advance!
