On Saturday July 26, Nixon was spending a fun filled day at Newport Beach while on vacation with his family. Swimming, digging holes, playing ball and just enjoying life. As the day came to a close Nixon decided to catch a few more waves on the boogey board. He exited the water a few minutes later complaining of a headache and saying he felt cold. He walked back up to the beach and sat down to rest. His mother Alicia walked over to him not a minute later and found him unresponsive without a pulse. He had gone into sudden cardiac arrest. His dad Nick ran to get the lifeguard for help while his Uncle Adam started CPR. The lifeguard continued CPR but was unable to get a pulse. Thank the Lord a defibrillator was on hand and they were able to restart Nixon’s heart after a few attempts.
He was rushed to Children’s Hospital Orange County (CHOC) where he had to be intubated due to a pulmonary hemorrhage which was causing him to cough up large amounts of blood.
He spent 3 long days in ICU while Doctors ran a battery of tests to determine what happened. Monday he was extubated and moved to a surgical floor where he will have a cardiac MRI and undergo a heart ablation procedure to fix an issue with his heart. He has been diagnosed with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome which basically means he has an extra electrical pathway in his heart which can cause your heartbeat to go into extremely rapid unsustainable pace. Nixon will make a full recovery and we are excited to see the big plans the Lord has in store for him. The outpouring of prayers and support has been amazing but people have asked what else can be done to help. Medical expenses are piling up right now with a 12 day hospital stay so any financial assistance would bring stress off the family so they can remain focused on Nixon’s care. Please continue to pray for their family, Nixon’s recovery and safe travels home after.
Thank you and God Bless.
