Help Nisha Heal: Surgery & Recovery Support

Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Sarai, and I’ve been lucky to call Nisha my best friend for over two decades. I created this GoFundMe on her behalf to support her as she prepares for an upcoming surgery to remove a cyst and endometriosis, as well as her left ovary and fallopian tube, followed by a long recovery period.

Nisha has given her full permission to share the personal details included here, and she is comfortable with this information being shared in order to help others understand her situation and support her during this time. By sharing her story, we also hope to raise awareness, challenge common misconceptions, and help others better understand what it means to live with endometriosis.

If you know Nisha, you know she is one of the most selfless and compassionate people you'll ever meet. She has a big heart and is always the first to show up for others, offering her time, energy, and care without hesitation. Whether it's supporting friends, caring for the children she works with as a nanny, or simply being there when someone needs her, Nisha gives so much of herself to the people around her. It's now time for us to be there for her.

For over 20 years, Nisha has lived with chronic pain. As a teenager, she didn't have the language to explain what she was feeling—she would simply say, "My stomach always hurts." Over time, she learned that she was living with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and Endometriosis—conditions that, at the time, were not as well understood. In many ways, she has had to learn alongside her doctors, advocating for herself through years of uncertainty and frustration.

Her experience has been a continuous cycle of bloodwork, ultrasounds, invasive exams, specialist visits, medications, and repeat. She has felt pain throughout her body: her chest, back, joints, abdomen, and ovaries, along with continuous fatigue, muscle tension, and depression. There were times she questioned herself, especially when the pain would subside before she could be seen by a specialist. She has endured extreme episodes, including bleeding for 79 days despite treatment.

Nisha has had multiple ultrasounds revealing cysts—sometimes large enough to cause significant pain, but not large enough to operate on. To cope, she began naming them, and if you know Nisha, you know this is totally in her realm. For example, meet: Cystney Spears or Taylor Cyst! She has undergone two laparoscopic surgeries in the past, where cysts containing malignant cells were removed. However, this upcoming surgery, scheduled for May 4, 2026, is different.

The risks are higher, the recovery is longer, and the stakes feel heavier. Her endometriosis flare-ups have become increasingly severe, impacting her ability to function day-to-day. Simple movements like getting out of bed or standing up can cause her intense, eye-tearing pain that stops her in her tracks. The unpredictability of it all has been one of the hardest parts.

Nisha works full-time and carries private health insurance, paying nearly $500 a month. Despite this, she is facing significant out-of-pocket medical expenses that she cannot manage alone, along with accumulated medical debt due to all the medicine she's had to take, exams she's had to endure, and appointments with multiple specialists. For example, she has a recent ER visit bill of nearly $5K. She also does not have enough paid time off to cover her full recovery period (4-6 weeks, assuming no complications), which means lost income during a critical time.

There are also emotional layers to this journey. She will have her left ovary and fallopian tube removed, which could further impact her fertility, a reality she is still processing. While that loss is difficult, the possibility of living without constant pain gives her hope.

We’re so grateful for any support you’re able to give! Thank you for helping surround Nisha with the same kindness and care she’s given so many.
