Niranjan (School Roll No. 2124, 1985-92 Batch) was our beloved classmate from Sainik School Korukonda (SaiKor) whose sudden departure from this world at the young age of 45 at the hands of the global covid pandemic was a deep shock to a very wide community. Everyone whose life he touched, fondly remembers a friend who was warm, generous, and genuine. “Serious” Niranjan we called him, because he took all his friends and relationships seriously. He was the Saikorian who was most true to the school ideal, “Ever Loyal.”
The goal of this campaign is to secure the educational future of Niranjan’s daughters, Varshita and Veda. As he was the sole breadwinner of the family, Niranjan’s sudden departure has placed a great strain on the family’s finances. In the face of the various challenges the family faces, the girls’ opportunities for a quality education have disappeared.
We collectively remember Niranjan for his large heart. Many of us have personally experienced his hospitality and generosity, helping without hesitation and to the fullest possible extent. Niranjan played a leading role in several Saikorian initiatives. He enthusiastically stepped forward to lead the organization of various efforts that have helped bring the school community closer, decades after we graduated. As his closest classmates, we have received words of condolence and stories of gratitude and admiration not just from other batches, but far beyond the boundaries of just us Saikorians.
A small group of us have therefore committed to the creation and maintenance of a Trust, with funds that will ensure Varshita and Veda’s education through high school and college. The funds collected in this campaign will be transferred to, and maintained by, our classmates Chandra Sekhar N and Gangadhar G, who remain physically and emotionally close to the family in India; and who are expert and trusted financial professionals. The Trust and the funds will be exclusively for the education of the two girls.
NOTE: The gofundme campaign will be managed by me, Mohinish Shukla, with the consent of the girls' mother, K Vijaya Lakshmi; who has also authorized me to withdraw the funds on her behalf and transfer them to the appropriate Indian bank account.
**Please note that we are coordinating two parallel campaigns** – while this campaign is primarily for the international community of well-wishers, those in India might prefer to contribute to the concurrent campaign at milaap. We are looking for a total value of $30,000 or INR 20,00,000, and will stop both campaigns when the total value across the two meets this threshold.
