Nino’s story is one of survival, resilience, and unconditional love.

Born into an underprivileged family in Costa Rica, Nino’s life took a tragic turn after a simple IV treatment led to a severe infection. Despite efforts to save his leg, the infection worsened, and amputation became the only option. We stepped in to cover the cost and made sure Nino’s family promised to care for him after the surgery.

Almost a year later, our hearts broke when the local foundation contacted us: Nino had been found tied to a barbecue, malnourished and neglected. From that moment, we knew he belonged with us—and he has been part of our rescue family ever since.

Nino is truly special and lives up to his name. Nino is Spanish for 'Little Boy.' Prone to mischief and also a skilled manipulator, the bond he has formed with us is unique. While he is strong, it breaks our hearts to see him limited by his condition.

He is a playful escape artist who refuses to let his disability define him. Sweet, noble, and full of light, he charms every single person he meets. But as he grows older, living on three legs is taking its toll. His remaining front leg is under constant strain, limiting his ability to play, go on long walks, and keep up with his 11 rescue siblings. We’ve noticed days where he seems sad, watching from the sidelines as the others run and swim in the river.

A prosthetic limb would change everything for Nino. It would:

Restore his mobility and let him run, play, and explore again.

Prevent long-term health issues like joint deformities and spinal problems.

Improve his emotional well-being by reducing pain and allowing him to join in on daily adventures.
