Hi everyone! This is Armand and Nina. We are avid game streamers, filmmakers and now minority-owned lunch truck business owners based in Philadelphia, PA.
In 2018, the idea of a lunch truck was born out of a love of quality food. Believing ourselves to be competent cooks with a keen sense of flavor, we felt it was best to transform our passion for food into a business. A lunch truck made the most sense as there is currently an active food truck boom in Philadelphia.
In addition, we saw a powerful need for positive outreach in the inner-city communities of Philadelphia, especially with the youth. So we devised an inventive way of combining community outreach with a food truck.
In 2019, we finally registered our business as Electronic Eats™, LLC. For the rest of that year, we gathered our financial resources to finally purchase a lunch truck in early 2020. Doing so immensely helped us in moving from the concept phase to action. But, it was still just the beginning. Between 2020 and 2021, we had spent a little over 100K -- obliterating each of our own checking and savings accounts -- on purchasing the truck, truck repairs, graphics, food testing, insurance and permits/licenses.
Now in 2022, we are nearly at the finishing line. The truck is now operational; we have most of the permits we need; we have a fully fleshed-out menu; we have a truck graphic wrapping in the works; we have identified our food inventory sources; we have operating locations nailed down. All that is left is: purchasing remaining equipment, such as a power generator and propane tanks; kitchen equipment, such as a point of sale system and utensils; the final 2 permits, completing the truck wrapping, costs for a few months of commissary kitchen membership, food inventory for the 1st month, and operating costs for the 1st month, including activities like refilling propane, diesel fuel, and water.
What this requires is about $30,000. We can only ask but every dollars counts, if you are able. This project is more than just a food truck; it is a new way of engaging Philadelphia's disadvantaged and overlooked communities. We love our city and we want to see it flourish.
