Help Nilah Heal: Fighting Rare FSGS Kidney Disease

Hi, I’m reaching out to you today to ask for your help in supporting an incredible woman who is about to go through one of the toughest challenges of her life. If you know Nilah, you know she is the kind of person who brings sunshine with her wherever she goes—San Diego born and raised, a proud young mother, a talented hairstylist, and truly the heartbeat of our family. Nilah became a mom to twins at a young age, and from the very beginning she’s been doing life with grit, grace, and a smile that she somehow kept even on the days she had every reason not to. She works tirelessly Monday through Sunday, pouring love into her clients, her kids, and everyone who walks through her door. She’s the type of woman who will stand behind a salon chair for hours, even when her feet ache, just because she wants another mom to feel beautiful. She is community-oriented, family-oriented, and always finds time to show up for others.

But now… she needs all of us to show up for her.

Nilah was diagnosed with FSGS, a rare kidney disease that affects fewer than 7 people per million each year. Hearing the diagnosis felt like the ground was pulled out from under us. Watching my little sister—someone so full of life—struggle to simply get through the day has been heartbreaking in ways I can’t fully express.
After so many prayers and sleepless nights, God answered one: Nilah has been approved for a kidney transplant, and a match has been found. Her surgery is scheduled for December 7, 2025.
We are grateful beyond words… but we’re also terrified. As a hairstylist and a single mom, Nilah lives off her hands—her art, her appointments, her clients who have become like family. The surgery means she won’t be able to work for a long period, and without work, she’ll have no income. The bills don’t stop. Rent doesn’t stop. Groceries don’t stop. Raising teenagers definitely doesn’t stop.
And in this season when she should be able to rest, breathe, and focus on healing, Nilah is instead worrying about how she’s going to keep her home, support her kids, and stay afloat.
This is why I’m asking for help.
What Your Support Means
Your donation—no matter the size—will help cover:
  • Lost income while she is unable to work
  • Medical expenses and transplant-related costs
  • Housing, food, and essentials for her and the twins
  • A stable, peaceful recovery period so she can heal without fear
Nilah is not just my sister—she is a mother fighting to stay alive for her children. She is a woman who has spent her whole life caring for others, and now she needs a community to lift her the way she has lifted so many.
