I never thought I’d be writing something like this. But when it comes to Niko, I’ll do anything.

Niko came into my life during one of the darkest chapters I’ve ever faced. His love pulled me out of depression and reminded me what joy feels like again. He’s my best friend, my hiking buddy, my reason to get up every day.

Recently, Niko was diagnosed with a severe deformity in his right hind leg — both his femur and tibia grew at painful, twisted angles. He also has hip dysplasia in both hips and a spinal abnormality. These conditions are heartbreaking results of overbreeding — something I didn’t know until it was too late. The breeder who sold him to me promised to help but has since disappeared, ignoring every message.

Despite it all, Niko greets each day with his tail wagging and that same goofy smile. He runs, plays, and refuses to let pain stop him from living — but I can see it in his eyes, the struggle behind his courage.

The surgery he needs to walk and live without pain is expensive. Insurance won’t cover it because it’s considered a “genetic condition,” not an accident — even though this is something that affects his every step and every moment of his life.

I can’t afford the high-end CT scans or modeling the specialists recommended, but I’m determined to get him the care he needs to finally live comfortably. I’m not just asking for help to fix his leg. I’m asking for a chance to give Niko the pain-free, happy life he deserves — after everything he’s already overcome.
