My name is Nikki, and for much of my life, I felt like an empty shell—hopeless, lost, and struggling to survive. I endured years of trauma, including molestation, kidnapping, homelessness, and addiction. Fourteen years ago, I found the strength to get clean and began rebuilding my life. I went back to school for medical billing and coding, determined to create a better future. I was honest with the school about my past, including my time in prison for a controlled substance, and was assured that I would be able to find work. Unfortunately, my history made it nearly impossible to secure a job in the field, and I now work hard for a modest wage, doing my best to make ends meet.

Despite these setbacks, I never lost my desire to help others. I recently applied to Southern New Hampshire University to study Substance Abuse Counseling, hoping to use my experiences to support and inspire those facing similar challenges. However, I can't get funding for this new chapter because of an outstanding balance from my previous schooling, which is being deducted from my income tax returns each year. Without help, I can't afford the tuition and books I need to pursue my dream.

All my life, I just existed as an empty shell upon this earth. Hopeless and lost. I just want to make a difference in this world, turning my ashes into beauty and planting hope and encouragement for those who have been in my shoes. As iron sharpens iron, we are our brother's keeper. I would be so grateful and blessed for anyone to take the time to help me on this journey. My gratitude would be immense, and it would forever change my life. This is a dream I have sought for a long time.
