Help Nik Repair Their Essential Wheelchair

Donation protected

Hello! My name is Nik. I’m a trans wheelchair user. In the past five years, I’ve gone from an active, outdoorsy human who walked everywhere, rode bikes, and loved hiking, to needing a wheelchair full-time and watching my health continue to decline.

After years of mystery and misdiagnosis, specialized testing revealed that I have a rare and progressive autoimmune disease called MCTD (Mixed Connective Tissue Disease). My body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues, gradually deteriorating my physical abilities, with nothing we have tried so far working to control the disease’s progression.

I recently transitioned from an ambulatory wheelchair user to using my chair full-time. Unfortunately, this is putting a lot of extra wear and tear on trusty “Artax” (does great in most environments, gets stuck in mud…IYKYK). As this is my only chair, I can’t afford to let it break down.

My wheelchair has been a necessary adaptation to help me rejoin society. I use it to go to the library, clean up trash in the park, and attend social events. Without it, I am largely homebound. With your help, I would replace several parts (batteries, joystick, armrest, screws) and get Artax back in tip-top shape! This will allow me to continue being part of my local community and travel to medical appointments.

I am extremely grateful for every contribution, no matter the amount. Thank you so much for your kindness and support.
