Help African Students Fleeing the Ukraine war

As we all watch the ongoing crisis in Ukraine in shock and horror, our thoughts are with all those affected in this uncertain time. Some of us and our colleagues have family and friends affected by this crisis. Many African students are currently still caught up in the war and haven’t made it to safe neighboring countries like Hungary and Poland. Sadly, there has also been growing cases of racism and discrimination towards Africans by some Ukrainians and Polish, refusing them to board buses and trains into safer countries and in some cases refusing them into their country.
When the report reached us and with some of the upleasant footages we saw online, we were heart broken and we decided to start this fundraiser to help as many African students as we can.
Following so many SOS calls, 2 of our team members traveled to Budapest, Hungary on the 12/3/2022 to 14/3/2022, to see the situation of these students for ourselves and to deliver some relief materials , donate the funds raised so far and see how we can raise more funds for the stranded students.
Our journey was an eye opener, the meetings we had were insightful, emotional and heartbreaking, no human being deserves to go through what these African students have been through. A lot of them are emotionally broken, suicidal, depressed, traumatised and disorientated due to the uncertain future that they now find themselves in. Some of the students spoke about how they were shot at by Russian soldiers while trying to escape to Hungary, how guns were pointed at them by racists and how they had to survive without food and shelter for days in the freezing cold.

In this light, we have set up this GoFundme page to swiftly raise funds that will be sent to our verified contacts in Hungary and Poland. All funds received will provide emergency relief materials and food items for all those affected by this ongoing crisis. We have confirmed that the immediate and urgent needs of these students are food and shelter.
