Help Niffler Heal: Support His Eye Surgery

Donation protected

Hi! I am Jody, hedgehog Momma to an amazing hedgie boy, Niffler. Niffler is a sweet and loving hedgie that loves to wheel and play with his jingle ball. Niffler comes from a high-quality breeder and was bred from a line of especially fluffy tummy hedgies. His tummy is so very soft. We actually rescued him from a family that abandoned him after adopting him from his breeder. Luckily, we took him in and got his background information from the breeder. He has been living his best life ever since.

He is typically a healthy and sturdy boy, but he recently injured his left eye by accident and it has developed an abscess. He was evaluated by his exotic vet and they first had us try antibiotics and artificial tears to see if that helped. It has not. He still eats, drinks, and plays like normal, but sleeping is difficult as he cannot close his eye. It dried out very quickly despite keeping it as moist as possible with the prescribed artificial tears. He claws at it constantly, making it worse. Clawing at an injury can be a hedgie's way of saying, "Something is wrong and we need to get rid of this." I think he is ready to let go of his poor, little eye.

The vet believes the next step is an "enucleation" or eye removal. Hedgies can absolutely live just fine without their eyes/sight. They have poor sight to begin with and better rely on scent and hearing. By the way, they make adorable pirates. The vet believes he is in fantastic shape otherwise, and the enucleation will fix him right up.

Times are tough for everyone, including me. I won't get into too many personal details, but I have my own health and family care issues that require a considerable amount of care and financial obligations. I am facing surgery myself in a few weeks. With that said, Niffler deserves to be safe, healthy, and comfortable just as well, as he is still an otherwise healthy, happy, and very much loved hedgie boy. With that said, I am asking for some help with his surgery costs and possible aftercare. Anything helps, even sharing if you cannot donate financially. One way or another, all of his needs will be met.

I have included a picture of his surgery cost. We hope for the low end but as any pawrent knows, we are lucky to experience walking out of the vet with only having to pay the low end. Plus, I want to make sure he has all of his aftercare needs met as well. Any additional funds left following surgery will be used to meet those needs.

I thank you all in advance and want you to know how much this means to Niffler and to myself.

Hedgehugs and love to all!
