Help Nicole's fight with cancer

Donation protected
2020 is a year that none of us could wait to put behind us - especially Nicole. I hope to help her and ask for your help by sharing her story.

After her first diagnosis of breast cancer at 43 and radical mastectomy in 2015,  Nicole thought she'd beat it, but it was short lived. In 2019 she had a second radical mastectomy which should have bought her peace of mind, but in 2020 she had a recurrence. The mass tested positive and she needed two surgeries to keep her cancer at bay. Further scans revealed unknown masses in her breasts and lungs not identified in her previous scans that indicated further spread. She feared for her life and ability to be a present mother for her then 8 year-old daughter, Bella.

Specialists are at odds about both her diagnosis and prognosis, and one mass persists. Nicole's form of breast cancer is slow growing, but has the highest rate of recurrence, and despite her double mastectomy, Nicole's team of oncologists and surgeons will need to monitor her closely for the rest of her life. She will likely have ongoing recurrences throughout her body that she will need to fight with immunotherapy/ chemotherapy and potential radiation repeatedly.

On top of this recurrence, Nicole was laid off from her job in August 2020 after the economic downturn, caused by the pandemic. Then, despite being extremely cautious due to her poor health, she contracted Covid in September.

She has survived cancer, Covid and job loss, and despite her normally positive Midwestern 'bring it on' outlook to adversity, these circumstances are admittedly starting to take a toll on her - both emotionally and financially. With a mortgage to pay on her own, a young daughter to provide for, and mediation, attorney, and medical bills piling up, I am humbly reaching out to our families, friends, and family and friends of our friends to ask for help.

Nicole remains optimistic, but there is a piece of her that feels she is on a sinking ship under the pressure of medical bills and debt to survive all that life has thrown at her in the past few years.

If you're concerned about breast cancer  or the difficulties of being a single mother, please donate. And if you know Nicole or I personally, please kick in whatever you can - even if it's $10 - to make sure one of the loves of my life survives this awful disease.

Thanks, in advance, for anything extra you have that could help someone who needs a little more. I'm eternally grateful, in advance, for your donation.
