Help Nicole Walker Schien battle brain cancer

Halloween of 2020 Nicole and I were ecstatic, we had recently found out we were having a baby and we were just enjoying the holiday together. Our joyful outlook changed drastically on November 1st. Nicole had started developing some unusual symptoms (dizziness, double vision, nausea, and loss of coordination) we went to the er that night and the nurses tried treatment for vertigo. Hours after treatment there were no results, an mri was ordered. November 1st we found a 3cm tumor near Nicole’s brain stem, at this moment we were speechless. Thoughts flooded our heads like “how serious is this”, “what caused this”, “how does this affect our baby”, “is this cancer” and the most scary thought “ is Nicole going to die”.
A little backstory on Nicole and I (her husband Dylan) Nicole was born in Ibiza Spain and moved to the United States when she was 16 years old. I met Nicole in 2017 and from the day we met we haven’t spend a day apart. We are best friends and have always supported each other in all of our endeavors. In 2019 Nicole and I got married, it was the happiest I’ve ever been. Almost exactly a year later we started trying for a baby, and we were successful within a couple months. That brings us back to November, this day turned our world upside down. A few weeks after hospitalization Nicole had a surgery to remove the tumor and the surgery was very successful removing roughly 80% of the mass. We were very excited that this surgery went so well. Two weeks later another scan was done to check on the healing process. To our and the doctors surprise the scans showed the tumor had regrown back to its previous size. We needed to take action immediately or Nicole was going to die within days. Around this time; a little after the surgery a biopsy came back. The tumor we are dealing with is cancer. But not only any type of tumor, it is a germ cell tumor. Germ cell tumors are very uncommon with being less that 5% of all brain cancers and more important to our situation there is no study with germ cell tumors and pregnancy. A few weeks after Nicole was moved from the icu we lost our baby boy “Theodore Louis Walker Schien”. Nicole is looking at months of radiation and chemotherapy in the immediate future. Now Nicole is beginning the recovery process. During this period Nicole has lost all of her muscle mass along with 65lbs. This has made a situation where Nicole needs to relearn to walk, feed herself, ect.
At the point of writing this Nicole has been in the hospital for 68 days. We’ve been hit hard financially without her working and me working only part time to care for her. Anything helps and thank you for reading our story. These are only the key points and unfortunately there is much more to her story.
