My name is Nicole, and right now my life looks very different than anything I ever imagined. I live with my sister and my mom, and recently my mom suffered a devastating stroke that changed everything for us. She can no longer work, and even speaking is a struggle for her. Watching the strongest woman I know fight to say simple words has been one of the hardest experiences of my life. I would give anything to take that pain from her. When this happened, our world flipped upside down. I had no choice but to step in, to become the one who keeps us going.
I’m a full-time student and athlete at Ramapo College of New Jersey, studying to become a nurse, a dream I’ve had for years because I’ve always wanted to help people in moments just like this. But suddenly I found myself trying to balance caring for my family, working two jobs, keeping up with school, and still showing up for volleyball. It felt like I was drowning, but I kept going because my family needs me. Eventually, I had to let go of one of my jobs. I didn’t want to fail my classes or lose my place on the court. But losing that income has made everything so much harder.
Some days I wake up at 5am, exhausted from the night before, and I still make the long trip to campus because I believe in my future. Without transportation, I don’t get home until 9pm most days. I walk through the door tired, worried, and sometimes overwhelmed, but I also walk in determined. Determined not to give up. Determined not to let this situation take away the dream I’ve worked so hard for. Volleyball has always been my escape, my therapy, and one of the biggest reasons I learned how to push through tough moments. When I’m on the court, even for a second, I feel like me again, strong, focused, free. Volleyball has taught me discipline, teamwork, and resilience. It helped shape my dream of working in the medical field, caring for others the same way my mom needs care now. But with everything going on, it’s getting harder to balance everything. I can feel that dream slipping out of reach, and I don’t want that. I don’t want to drop out. I don’t want to walk away from everything I’ve fought for.
That’s why I’m reaching out for help , something that’s not easy for me to do. Any support you can give will go directly toward tuition, books, household expenses, and keeping our family afloat while my mom recovers. You won’t just be helping with bills, you’ll be giving me a chance to keep going, to stay in school, to stay on the court, and to keep fighting for my future. If you are someone willing to help… please know how deeply grateful I am. Your kindness means more than you’ll ever know. In a world that can feel cold and heavy, people like you are proof that there are still good hearts out there, hearts that care, that give, that lift others when they’re falling. You are truly a blessing. Thank you for listening to my story, for believing in me, and for helping me hold onto a dream that feels so fragile but so important. Your support gives me strength, the strength to keep pushing, keep studying, keep playing, and keep caring for the people I love most.
