On November 9, 2024 my world changed. While we were in Oman, my wife, Nicole, suffered a stroke. She spent a month in the hospital there before we were able to airlift her to the Wellington rehabilitation center in the U.K., where she spent another five months fighting her way back. We finally came home to Bermuda on May 23, 2025. Since then Nicole has spent every opportunity in therapy—first relearning to swallow and speak, then slowly regaining movement in her arm and leg. She refuses to give up, even when the progress feels painfully slow.

Why we’re asking for your help

Nicole’s determination has brought her far, but she still can’t walk or use her Left arm the way she wants to. We’ve learned about an innovative program in Ohio that could be life‑changing: the NeuroAnimation Neuro‑Recovery program. This is an intense, three‑week boot-camp where participants train three hours a day, five days a week

. It’s designed for people recovering from severe brain injuries like strokes and has been clinically shown to be twice as effective as standard therapy

. They also offer a Neuro‑Strength program that builds cognitive and mental agility over 12 weeks

. Nicole’s neurologist believes she is an excellent candidate.

To give Nicole her best shot at walking again, we need to get her to Ohio twice a year. Each three‑week session costs about $9,000 and we will need to cover flights from Bermuda, accommodation, and caregiver support while we’re there.

In addition, Nicole hopes to use the Cionic Neural Sleeve, a wearable device that electrically stimulates muscles to improve gait and mobility. Cionic’s pricing is a $260 non‑refundable down payment and $260 per month for the first 12 months

. Unfortunately the Neural Sleeve isn’t covered by insurance

, so we will have to pay out of pocket. After the first year, the subscription cost drops to $120 per month, but the initial expenses are steep.

Between therapy fees, travel costs and the Neural Sleeve subscription, our family simply can’t manage this alone. We’ve already exhausted our savings paying for the emergency medical care in Oman and London, and for Nicole’s ongoing rehabilitation since we returned home.
