Many of you know Nicole—one of our community’s most trusted and beloved pet sitters. Last week, she was in a terrible car accident that left her hospitalized with severe head trauma. By the grace of God, she survived and will soon be released. But what many of you might not know is that this accident is just the latest in a long line of heartbreaking events Nicole has endured.

Last year, Nicole lost her mother. Not long after, Hurricane Helene tore through Georgia, leaving devastation in its wake. Two massive trees crashed into Nicole’s home, destroying parts of the structure and leaving one room completely exposed to the elements. While most of us were able to recover and move on, Nicole's home is still covered with a tarp, badly damaged, and uninhabitable in places.

To make matters worse, Nicole has been locked in a months-long probate battle to access her rightful insurance so she can begin repairs. Her mother’s passing also meant the loss of her health insurance, which she desperately needs now more than ever.

Her belongings have been sitting in storage for nearly 10 months. She’s been living in a damaged home, without her mother, without insurance, and now, without a car and facing mounting medical bills from her recent hospitalization. She hasn't been able to work during this time, which means no income, growing expenses, and few options.

And yet—through it all—Nicole has never complained. When I reached out to her after the accident, the first thing she asked was how my pets were doing.
