Nicole Deer lived quietly and humbly in St. Elizabeth, part of a community she loved. When Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica on October 28, 2025 - a Category 5 storm the strongest the island has ever recorded - her world was turned upside down. The storm left St. Elizabeth Parish “underwater” and “obliterated,” with buildings collapsed, roofs torn off, and homes destroyed. In the town of Black River, nearly 90% of homes lost their roofs.

Nicole lost her home and everything in it, with no insurance, no family to lean on, and no safe place to go. Today, she has nowhere permanent to live. The home she knew is gone. Her memories, her belongings, erased in a storm for which no amount of preparation could fully prepare her. While the world watches and cares about Jamaica, we can turn compassion into action.

We have the opportunity now, across the world and thousands of miles, to help build Nicole build a new home in a new community - a place she can call safe again. Our goal is to raise $9,000 in the next 30 days to secure construction supplies (lumber, roofing, insulation, foundation), skilled and volunteer labor, and basic furnishings and safe utilities so she can live with dignity. The damage is recent. The need is immediate. With thousands homeless, supply chains disrupted, and labor and materials in high demand, we must act now. Nicole is alone in her recovery, and without our help, she remains vulnerable.
