A Difficult Journey I Didn’t Expect — Please Help If You Can

Hi, my name is Nicole Gray, and I’m reaching out with a heavy heart, but also with hope.

A few months ago, I had to make a life-changing decision. I traveled to the United States for surgery that simply could not be done in my home country. I was diagnosed with a rare congenital condition called a tailgut cyst. It was growing dangerously close to my intestines and spine, and it began to cause serious health issues.

I was scared as anyone would be in a situation like this, but I knew I had to go through with the surgery. In April 2025, I underwent the procedure and the cyst was removed. I truly believed I would be able to heal and excited to be able to return home soon after.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned.

After the surgery, I experienced unexpected medical complications. My body had a negative reaction to a graft that was used during the operation. I also developed intestinal and spinal issues due to the cyst’s original location. Since then, I’ve had to undergo more tests and treatments than I ever imagined.

Instead of recovering and returning home, I’ve had to stay much longer in the U.S. I’ve been far away from my support system, and it has been incredibly difficult—physically, emotionally, and financially.

Now, I am at a point where I wouldn't have ever expected and I need help to continue this journey. I wasn’t prepared for the pain I would endure, the extended time I would have to stay, or for the growing expenses. These include accommodation, daily living costs, and transportation to and from medical appointments. Every day that I remain here to receive care adds more pressure.

I’m doing my best to stay strong, but I simply cannot do this alone anymore.
