Nicole is our beautiful sister-in-law.

She was diagnosed with stage 2, grade 3 invasive mammary carcinoma ( breast cancer ) in October 2020. In addition to this, Nicole has tested positive for HER2, a protein called human epidermal growth factor receptor. This protein promotes the growth of cancer cells. Nicole had a mastectomy of her right breast in November and the pathology results showed that there was also cancer in her lymph nodes.

Nicole is on medical leave without pay from her job at St. Elizabeth Health Care as a Service 
Coordinator. Nicole is currently on unemployment as short term benefits are unavailable to her and she has run out of sick days. Her unemployment runs out mid February.  LTD is not a guaranteed benefit for Nicole and at the time of this post NICOLE has not been informed if she has been approved for LTD. If  Nicole does qualify for LTD, she will not receive any funds until May. The health challenges that Nicole is currently facing will take all of her time and energy. We are hoping to reduce the worry she has over financial stressors so that Nicole can fully commit to receiving her treatments and focusing on recovery.

Last Thursday Nicole received her first round of chemo. Her medical team has scheduled her for an aggressive treatment regiment of chemo and radiation that will last at least until August and will then be followed by the administration of Trastuzumad  every 21 days. The dr.’s informed Nicole she will likely have her port in for a full year.

Nicole is a single mother of 2 wonderful young men that she has raised without any financial assistance. Family has always been a priority for Nicole and she has always provided a warm and loving home for herself and her boys. After providing for her family there was little left at the end of each month and Nicole does not have any savings.

It is now more important than ever that Nicole is able to concentrate on her recovery and not be burdened with the stress of the tremendous financial impact this disease is going to impose on her. On top of the stress of daily living expenses there will now be an additional financial burden because of her cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Nicole is one of the warmest, most loving and caring people you will ever meet. Nicole is always optimistic, giving, humble, kind and courageous. She is also in for the fight of her life but we know that with your love and support Nicole will be able to meet and tackle this challenge head on.
