Help Nicole get the wheelchair of her dreams!

My name is Nicole and I'm fundraising for the wheelchair of my dreams!!! I'm 32 years old and I spend almost every hour of every day at home. It's not all bad since I'm generally a homebody.... or perhaps I've become one? I mean, I can't complain. I get to spend time playing board games with the love of my life, cuddling and playing with my four-legged fur-baby, slaying Onibaba in Ghost of Tsushima, and watching shows and movies (I'm currently watching Fruits Basket with my bestie on Crunchy Roll and Extraordinary Attorney Woo with my mom on Netflix).

I want to go out on my own more and be able to walk my dog outside more often. However, I just don't have the right tools and, unfortunately, after a long-drawn-out unsuccessful battle with health insurance and wheelchair vendors, I was denied coverage for those very tools: the wheelchair and associated accessories that I need for my health and independence.

Why do I need a new wheelchair? Well, first I'll tell you why I use one in the first place. I was born with a genetic connective tissue disorder (Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome) and other comorbidities, which together cause lightheadedness, fatigue, widespread pain, fainting, and difficulty walking due to frequent joint dislocations, pain and hives in my legs and feet, and mild balance issues due to reduced proprioception. It has gotten worse over the years to the point that I now rely on a wheelchair for mobility. The one I have is off-the-shelf and has helped a ton, but it doesn't fit in my subcompact car, it's too heavy for me to lift by myself so I have to rely on others to do it for me, and it's not made for my body so it causes me pain over time.

Altogether, the total cost of the new wheelchair, the backrest, the cushion, and the power assist system is almost $17,000 exactly (update: $10,500 after discounts, gifts, removing unnecessary components, and finding used components). I'm in so much debt from school and endless medical expenses that I just simply can't afford it. But this new wheelchair is incredible! It's so light that I will be able to lift it on my own, so compact that it will fit in my car, and so easy to transport that I will be able to travel easily with it. Not only that, but because the wheelchair is designed for my body, it won't cause me pain! I will also feel more confident being out and about by myself and even walking short distances with the peace of mind that I will have the wheelchair nearby and at the ready.

Mi nombre es Nicole y estoy recaudando fondos para la silla de rueda de mis sueños. Tengo 32 años y me paso casi todo el día en la casa. No está tan mal ya que me gusta estar en la casa. Me acurruco y juego con mi perrito, juego juegos de mesa con mi novio, juego videojuegos y veo películas y series con mi familiar y mis amigos remotamente.

Me gustaría salir más a menudo y sacar a mi perrito a pasear con más frecuencia. El problema es que no tengo las herramientas que necesito. Después de una luncha intensa con mi seguro médico, me negaron cobertura para esas mismas herramientas: una silla de ruedas y sus accessorios.

¿Por qué necesito una silla de ruedas? Bueno, primero te cuento por qué uso una ahora mismo. Nací con un desorden genético (síndrome de Ehlers-Danlos), el cual viene con otras condiciones. Me causan mareos, desmayos, fatiga, dolor en todo el cuerpo y dificultad al caminar por dislocaciones en las coyonturas, urticaria en mis pies y piernas al caminar y problemas de balance. Se ha ido empeorando a través de los años, lo cual me ha hecho necesitar usar silla de ruedas. El problema es que la silla que tengo es una silla que es demasiado grande para mi carrito pequeño, demasiado pesada para poder cargarla yo sola así que dependo de la ayuda de otras personas y no está hecha para mi cuerpo así que me causa dolor a medida que pasa el tiempo.

La silla nueva, el espaldar, el cojín y el sistema eléctrico cuestan casi exactamente $17,000 (ahora $10,500 después de que eliminé componentes que no eran necesarios, recibí regalos, incluí componentes usados y recibí descuentos). Estoy tan endeudada y tengo tantos gastos médicos que simplemente no tengo el presupuesto. Pero esta silla es increíble. Es tan liviana y compacta que la puedo cargar yo sola y cabe fácilmente en mi carro. También se me haría muy fácil viajar con ella. Además, la silla está diseñada para mi cuerpo, así que no me ocasionaría dolor.
