Hello, my name is Catherine Gomez, and I’m creating this fundraiser on behalf of my dear friends Silvia & Jose Nadal, and their daughter, Nicole Alberto-Nadal. Nicole is a vibrant and kind-hearted 23-year-old who was traveling visiting her grandma in Uruguay and fell ill. After being hospitalized, she was diagnosed with a severe obstruction of her pancreas duct, caused by gallstones,  leading to a dangerous Pancreatitis. Pancreatitis is a serious condition that requires hospitalization and extensive treatment, and it is life-threatening; she also developed a pleural effusion in her left lung. Furthermore, she will need surgery to remove her gallbladder.

Nicole does not have health insurance coverage in Uruguay, and did not obtain travel insurance before traveling, her family is now facing a growing mountain of medical bills and emergency travel expenses. Her mother, Silvia, had to urgently leave the United States and her other two children to be by her daughter’s side during this terrifying and uncertain time.

The emotional toll has been devastating—and the financial burden is overwhelming. In addition to medical costs, flight changes/cancellations and temporary childcare have added to the financial burden.

Nicole has not been able to return to her full time job , which she depends on to pay her rent in NYC and bills.
