In early July, Nicole contracted COVID and has since been subject to a series of devastating medical complications. Immediately after recovering, she started to experience a severe neurological decline. Her vision started blurring, her hearing became hypersensitive, she had trouble thinking and remembering things, her body started to become weaker, her limbs stopped functioning properly, and no doctor could tell her what was happening. This continued to become more and more debilitating until she was convinced she was dying.
Now what we've been told is that she has suffered from an extreme case of long covid, or post covid syndrome, exacerbated by a prior brain injury. This condition is not yet well understood, and treatment options are limited. It has rendered her disabled and unable to function in normal daily life. It has left her with severe muscle weakness, dizziness, balance problems, sensitivity to light, sound and motion, chronic pain due to nerve damage, gastrointestinal issues, debilitating anxiety, PTSD, chest pain and heart palpitations. All of this has resulted in Nicole having to live most of her life in a dark, quiet room in constant pain, unable to even look at her phone to pass the time. She is unable to work or perform basic tasks such as getting out of bed, bathing etc., so I am unable to work in order to care for her.
We've lost so much already. We've gone into a mound of debt and exhausted our savings due to medical expenses, surgical expenses, respite care, loss of roommates, and lack of income. We've applied for some govt. assistance, but that has yet to bear any fruit. We've been forced to take out a medical loan of $25,000 that has already been spent to cover some of these costs, and we have no way of affording to pay it off. We are exhausted, worn down, and just trying to make it through the day and keep a roof over our heads. Since Kaiser has no available treatments for Nicole's condition, we need help affording specialists that don't accept our insurance, who we believe can help Nicole heal (one is $5000 down, the other $2700). In the midst of all of this, our only car has broken down, and we need to get it up and running for doctor's appointments, which will be at least $2000. Finally, we need help paying off this loan and for daily essentials like healthy food, monthly bills, respite care, and mental health care. We are asking for financial help to get Nicole the care she so desperately needs after enduring a perfect storm of traumatic events that have caused so much heartache and suffering. Please help her get to the other side of this!
Thank you so much for reading, and please REPOST AND SHARE with your friends, even if you can't donate. Like, comment, whatever you can do to get this up there on the algorithm. We really need this story to go viral to get the traction necessary to afford her medical care. Anything helps. Thank you!!!
