Help Nicole Battle Endometriosis & Mental Health

Hello,

My name is Nicole Ibarra, and I am 23 years old. I am currently facing the challenges of living with Endometriosis, Adenomyosis, and mental health issues. My battle started with my first period at 12 years old. I couldn't understand what was happening around that time, but I was no stranger to the feeling of pain. When I was 16, I was in training for a 10k race when, on one occasion, I experienced a sudden fainting episode due to a severe pelvic pain flare-up. That’s where my journey with Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN), marking the initiation of my relationship with Endometriosis.

Endometriosis is a chronic systemic inflammatory disease, where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, causing pain and other health issues. It also affects metabolism in the liver and adipose tissue, leads to systemic inflammation, alters gene expression in the brain, and causes pain sensitization and mood disorders. The full effect of the disease is not fully recognized and goes far beyond the pelvis. It's often misunderstood and under-researched, even though it affects many people.

Unfortunately, over the past two years, my symptoms have progressively deteriorated, and I have resisted all kinds of traditional efforts to control them. Since 2020, I've seen over a dozen specialists and tried multiple different treatments like hormonal, holistic, physical, meditation, you name it, I’ve tried it. Nothing helped and that’s when my suicidal thoughts became present in June of last year. After a Baker Act for suicidal ideation, I finally got help and found a doctor who offered me the “gold standard” solution: my first laparoscopic surgery.
Nevertheless, my post-operation recovery didn't go as expected and I have not been the same ever since. I often find myself looking back at old pictures and memories, longing for the strength and vitality I once had. This is why I’m taking this difficult step to ask for help. I have accumulated medical bills totaling $ 30,000, and I lack the means to pay them.

We’ve set a fundraising goal of $30,000, to cover various financial hardships that I’m facing including my inability to work due to this illness. The breakdown of these costs includes:

-$6,000 for a six-week pelvic pain treatment involving painful injections in the pelvic region.
- $3,800 to cover a three-month supply of medications and physical therapy.
- $3,000 to support my living expenses during my recovery from the injections, including rent.
- The remaining amount will be allocated to address the mounting medical bills that I’ve dragged for the past two years, severely affecting my health.

If you’ve made it all this way, I deeply appreciate the time you have taken to read this. This is a chronic illness affecting 1 in 10 women globally, highlighting the need for more awareness. I’ve tried to keep my struggles private, but I can’t anymore. My condition makes it impossible for me to stand for extended periods, and the medication I am on induces dizziness, nausea, and instability. Consequently, I have lost jobs, relationships, opportunities, and the ability to perform daily tasks that I once took for granted. My main desire is to be able to keep studying, I want to keep working, and I want to keep living. Your support would mean the world to me.

Love Always,
Nicole Ibarra

Gracias .
