Dear All,
My name is Makayla, I have started this GoFundMe seeking your support on behalf of my Wonderful Mum, Nicole.
My mum is the strongest most resilient person I have ever met. She has been a pillar of strength, and love in my and my sibling's life. She is always smiling and laughing even when times are tough. She is not one to ask for help so you can imagine how much effort went into finally convincing her to let me do this!
This is my mum’s story, and I’m honoured to tell it on her behalf.
After discovering a lump on her breast at only 34 years old, My mum was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. This wasn’t something she had ever imagined would or could happen to someone her age, she had only just had my little brother who was only a year old, my you her sister and I being 6 and 7. My mum being the warrior she is fought and fought hard to win her battle with cancer. She took chemo in her stride and later had a bilateral mastectomy after discovering she had the BRACA1 gene. She then did hormone/endocrine/immunotherapy and radiotherapy and then underwent a hysterectomy. But this was only the beginning. During this time my Grandfather and Grand Aunt were diagnosed with terminal cancer and later passed away. In 2016 my mum was made redundant simultaneously as she was told that her cancer had returned. She then went on to get qualified in her dream job to work as a Health and Safety at Priory. She was the main financial provider for the family and even though she was diagnosed as having incurable breast cancer, she took on guardianship of my niece, her step-grandaughter. In the present day, her health has drastically deteriorated. The cancer is stage 4 and has now metastasised and she also developed severe Lipoedema in her left arm. 6months ago her palliative care team decided to admit her to hospice where they could work on pain management as she was in severe pain and gave her weeks- months to live. She fought hard and came home from the hospice, after 6 months she has been re admitted as the cancer has spread to her throat and fluid is filling her lungs. Her palliative care team has she has not got long left. It would make such a big difference if some of our financial strains are lessened from our shoulders.
