My name is Nicolas. I've been a sushi chef in the United States for almost ten years. I came here looking for a better life, and I've spent that decade working hard, paying taxes, and building something real. On July 15, I was detained by ICE. One day I was training my fellow coworkers, and the next I was in a holding cell. It happened fast, and it's been overwhelming. I'm writing this myself because I need help — and I'm not too proud to ask.

I have a 9-year-old child who means the world to me. Being away from her right now is one of the hardest parts of all this. I also have a significant other who has been by my side through everything. My mother and brother live here in the U.S. as well, and they've been my rock. Beyond family, I've built deep friendships over the years — with coworkers, regular customers at the restaurant, and people in my community. I've been here nearly a decade, and this is where my people are. This is home. I've worked as a sushi chef with dedication and pride. It's not just a job — it's my craft, my routine, and my place in the world. I want to get back to it.

Immigration detention is expensive. There's no public defender in immigration court, so I have to hire my own lawyer. And if I'm granted bond, I have to pay it in full — cash — before I can be released. Here's what the $25,000 would cover:

· Legal fees — attorney retainer and court representation; bond — if I'm eligible, this is the only way out while my case proceeds.

I've always been the one to provide. I've never asked for help like this before. But right now, I can't work, I can't be with my loved ones, and I can't fight this alone.
