Medical Expenses for Life-Saving Heart Surgery for Nicolas

Nicolas was born in March of 2000 with Critical Aortic Stenosis, a severe heart defect, which required surgery at birth. He had life-saving open-heart surgery at birth, then again at 4 months of age, where he received a Ross-Kono procedure using his pulmonary valve in the aortic place. This valve has grown with him for 25 years.

Nic's life has been filled with years of procedures, interventions, and doctors monitoring his heart closely to see when that valve needed intervention. The time has come, Nic needs a 3rd open-heart surgery. Nic and his parents have chosen to go to Boston Children's Hospital to do this life-saving surgery. Nic will have a mechanical valve placed, which hopefully will last decades of his lifetime.

This will place a financial hardship on Nic and his family as they will have to travel away for weeks at a time until Nic is strong enough to return to Pennsylvania.
