Help Nico Achieve Gender-Affirming Care

Hi all!! This GoFundMe is for my best friend, Nico. He is trans and is pursuing gender-affirming care and surgeries. Nico is one of the most joyful, loving, and thoughtful people I know, the kind of friend you want in your lightest and heaviest moments. Nico reminds people how to be their silliest, most honest selves, and shows me everyday what it looks like to truly see and love people where they’re at.

For Nico, gender-affirming care and surgery means getting to feel at peace and at home in his body. It means getting to stand up without hunching over. It means swimming gleefully. For someone who loves the ocean as much as Nico does, being at the beach without dysphoria will mean the world.

After years of planning and saving, Nico has finally obtained a surgery date in April. Nico will be receiving a dual surgery which includes top surgery. The fees for the dual surgery are significantly higher than for top surgery alone. Amidst insurance and healthcare setbacks, including that his insurance does not offer transgender coverage, Nico has to pay out of pocket for his surgeries and needs our help to get him the gender-affirming care he needs.

The out of pocket cost for top surgery is $12,000, and the dual surgery adds an additional $8,000, not including hospital or anesthesia fees. Those fees start at a minimum of $2,925. Additionally, Nico needs to travel out of state to receive these surgeries and to cover costs of travel and staying for 10 days, as well as supplies including wedge and mastectomy pillows for sleeping, wound care supplies, food, and other necessities.
