In 2002, Nicky Hurtado was involved in a serious accident that required major surgery. After recovering, Nicky returned to full-time work and lived without major issues for nearly 20 years.
In 2021, complications from that original injury began to resurface. After seeing a doctor, Nicky underwent surgery in 2024 related to the 2002 accident. Since that surgery, Nicky has experienced paralysis from the chest down and also limited function of his arms and hands. Sadly, continued complications led to another major surgery in 2025.
Nicky is currently away from his home in Arizona, receiving specialized care at Craig Hospital in Colorado. It is one of the top five spinal cord and brain injury rehabilitation hospitals in the world. His days consist of 7–8 hours of intensive therapy, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, and life-skills classes designed to help him adapt to life with a spinal cord injury.
While this care is critical and is truly a blessing, it has created a significant financial burden. Nicky’s family is traveling from Arizona for short visits so they can be by his side during this incredibly difficult time, adding to the expenses.
We are raising funds to help cover medical costs, travel and lodging, lost income, everyday living expenses, and necessary home accommodations when Nicky returns home to Yuma, Arizona.
Everyone knows Nicky, and to know him is to love him. He has always been the life of the party, bringing smiles and laughs to so many with his endless joking and shenanigans. Nicky would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need, always willing to help others.
First and foremost, we ask for continued prayers for Nicky and his family. Secondly, any donations, prayers, or sharing of this fundraiser is deeply appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read and support Nicky during this journey.
God bless you, and peace be with you.
