Hello everyone! My name is Jade and I’m starting this fundraiser for my dear friend Nicky.

Nicky is a lovely and artistic girl who has been longing to return to Montreal, the city she grew up in, ever since I met her. Earlier in August, she was able to finally make that move, traveling across the country from Ontario to Quebec with her lovable cat Miki. However, many unplanned and extra costs and have left her wracked with uncertainty.

Nicky is disabled, and some difficulties have popped up from having switching her benefit support from Ontario to Quebec, leaving her without a stream of income for three months.

She has obtained an apartment, but it’s far less than ideal and is in an unsafe neighborhood due to the difficulty and lack of support for finding housing for people with disabilities. It was essentially a panic decision between locking down a place to live, or face the possibility of homelessness.

And to top it all off, there have been unexpected expensive veterinarian check up fees after Miki’s lower lip started swelling last week, which could also lead to further visits upon the vet discovering a swollen lymph node on her neck…

For now, I’m here in Canada helping her with moving and even some cost of living expenditures like food, but I lost my job because my employer didn’t give me time off to help her, so my savings are also dwindling. Eventually, when my money runs dry, I will have to return to the United States and leave Nicky by herself. That’s why I want to ask for help. I don’t want to leave her like this.

Nicky has no family she can rely on for support. She only has her network of friends. If you’ve ever talked to Nicky, you know how thoughtful and sweet she is. If we can band together and donate to help her afford her rent and a bed and food for three months until she is able to transfer her health care information between provinces and receive disability support again, it would mean the world to her, and to me! I’ve seen how this move has been a lot for her, and Nicky has a hard time asking for help and would never ask herself, so I made this fundraiser to try to help her until she can support herself.

Her cost of rent is $980 a month. For three months, that comes to $2,940.

A bed would cost around $200-500.

Various furniture and living supplies (table, desk, a chair, cleaning supplies, etc.) would come to $100-500 (wide range to account for getting cheaper used furniture.)

Food would be $50-100 a month.

Adding all of these things, I believe the goal amount of $5000 can provide a safe cushion for her and help ease the burden and worry of these next few months.

If we were to somehow raise a bunch of extra money, we could even look into changing the lease at the current apartment she has and hopefully have more time to find somewhere much better, rather than this bottom of the barrel final option. I would personally be so relieved if that could happen, because her current place makes me pretty nervous, and she already has a lot of trouble going out due to her agoraphobia. She deserves to live without stress and she's so close to be able to do so! Any donations will go directly to her account! Please help her out if you can!
