As many of you know, my cousin Nickola Frederick, has been battling lymphedema since she was 13 years old. Lymphedema is a chronic disease marked by the increased collection of lymphatic fluid in the body, causing swelling, which can lead to skin and tissue changes. Nickola has an everyday battle to hide her swelling. Over the years, Nickola has been hospitalized multiple times due to the Lymphedema causing Cellulitis in both legs requiring IV antibiotics. After suffering for many years, she has finally found a surgeon that specializes in Lymphedema that has been giving relief to patients that suffer from this horrific disease. For the last 2+ years Nickola has been following the work of this surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic and has been fortunate enough to be able to be one of his patients. On November 16th, 2023, Nickola underwent the MITESE procedure, to clear out all the blockages in her left leg. While the prognosis for her lymphedema is good, given how great of a candidate her surgeon believes she is, the cost of this procedure comes at a high cost. Insurance is not willing to cover her surgery fully, plus another MITESE procedure looms for her right leg. Nickola is also unable to work as she recovers from these procedures, which only adds to the stress of this already incredibly difficult time. Nickola, her husband Travis, and their sons, Deklyn and Brandon, are endlessly grateful for any donation you might be willing to give.
