Help Nick stay in the U.S. and safe

To all my friends,

As you all probably remember, many years ago our family hosted an exchange student from Ukraine. Nick Zinchenko quickly became part of our family… Nick has been working as a mariner on a ship over the past few years. On Friday, his ship was in port in Houston. His contract ended on Friday and the company was sending him back to Ukraine. I flew to Houston to attempt to get him and bring him home to California and get his Asylum process started to keep him safe from the war. Well, when he got off the ship with his crew mates, they were escorted to the airport and greeted by Customs officers who guarded them to make sure they boarded their respective flights. At that moment, Nick made the decision to tell the Officers that he feared going back to Ukraine and he wanted to claim asylum. Then, he was detained and is now still detained in the Montgomery Processing center in Conroe, TX. We have no idea what is going on. Since it is the weekend, no officials have come to speak with him or tell him what is going on. All we want is for him to get out of detention and travel back to California with me so we can go start/continue the asylum process in a place that is safe for Nick. He is a great young man and our family loves him like our own. We just want him safe. So, what can you do? Well. I am creating a Go Fund Me campaign to raise legal funds for his release.
