Help Nick Hasz Keep His Home after Brain Cancer
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Nick Hasz, and I'd like to ask for your help.
In May of 2021, I found out I had brain cancer.
I found this out because I began having seizures. After the source of those was tracked down to a tumor, I went through treatment for it. This whole process took over a year and a half, during which I lost my job as a computer programmer and used all the savings I had.
While I eventually battled the cancer into remission, to this day I have excessive daily fatigue and brain fog from the brain trauma, and the seizures continued, leaving me with long periods where I wasn't able to drive, all of which made finding and sustaining employment difficult. It wasn't until the last year that my neurologist was finally able to find a medication that adequately controls my seizures, allowing me to at least attempt to work. Unfortunately, it is extremely expensive and leaves me with even more tiredness on top of the fatigue and brain fog I already had. My doctors say all of this may be permanent. What savings I had were used to support myself during the cancer treatment and pay for medical costs during that time. I also maxed out my credit card trying to cover things while I was off work and had no way to pay it back. I should have made this GoFundMe then, but I was still too proud and determined that I'd be able to beat this on my own with only family and a couple of friends for financial support here and there.
The jobs I can find that will hire me and where I can do the work with my disabilities are barely enough to cover my regular monthly bills excluding my mortgage which I was able to get a forbearance on. Unfortunately, that forbearance has ended and I'm faced with selling the house I love so it's not foreclosed on.
I have applied for social security disability (again far later than I should have, because I was too proud).
Sadly, as we all know, the disability process can be long.
I am asking for money to cover my mortgage and other essential bills and expenses for myself and my dog until such a time as my disability claim goes through. I estimate the cost of those bills to be about $2400/month, so I am hoping to reach a final goal of $28,000 so I have close to a year for disability to process. Anything left over from this GoFundMe after disability comes through will be donated to cancer and epilepsy research.
I fought as hard as I could to avoid going on disability but finally I was forced to humble myself and seek help. I am again trying to humble myself here seeking your assistance in getting my life back.
Any amount you can give would be appreciated, even if you can only spare $5 or $10. Even if you can't donate, I would appreciate it if you could take a moment to share this so that more people see it.
Thank you.
