Help Nick Fight Gastric Cancer

Hello, My name is Nicolas Anzalone, and I am currently fighting Stage IV Gastric Cancer.

In March of 2021, my life was a whirlwind, juggling two jobs, relationships, and raising kids, all while barely catching a few hours of sleep each night, until everything changed. I started feeling constantly exhausted, and light-headed, and my appetite vanished along with unexpected weight loss. It was like my body was trying to tell me something was wrong, but I never expected the news I received on July 26th, 2021. A routine endoscopy revealed a malignant tumor in my stomach and esophagus—Stage IV gastric signet cell adenocarcinoma, CDH1 negative, Her2 positive.

The journey since then has been a rollercoaster of emotions, treatments, and setbacks. From meeting with specialists, constant scans and bloodwork to enduring rounds of chemotherapy, each step has been both physically and emotionally draining. But amidst the darkness, I’ve found rays of hope through the fellow survivors I’ve connected with since diagnosis.

After undergoing a total gastrectomy and a grueling recovery process, I finally glimpsed a semblance of normalcy by July 2022. But just as I was starting to regain my strength, cancer returned in April 2023, spreading to new areas of my body. This time, surgery wasn't an option, and the road ahead seemed uncertain.

But in the face of adversity, I’ve chosen to fight. With the support of my medical team and the encouragement of my loved ones, I embarked on a clinical trial for a promising new therapy, luckily I’ve seen progress and my cancer is mostly stable, but my battle is far from over as I navigate all the side effects of treatment, this time without a stomach.
