You're Invited: Wedding Gift to Bride's Brother

Donation protected
Back in November of 2020, my brother's life as the main provider for his family became immensely more difficult when he was diagnosed with three different kinds of cancer (embryonal carcinoma, teritoma, and egg yolk sack--two of which are very rare and aggressive). Aside from the fear that comes with this scary news, I know that the main question in Nick's mind was how he could take care of his family.

From beginning of March to mid April, Nick underwent some of the most difficult weeks of his life doing intensive chemotherapy.  Melanie, his bride of 12 years, stayed by his side through all of his treatments. Anyone who knows Nick is used to seeing him as an impenetrable rock, as someone strong and endlessly reliable. One of the hardest things for his family was to see him so altered and weakened. No matter what life throws at him, my brother will always push himself past his limit to take care of his family. I think their love for him is what helped him to continue when he wanted to quit.

The good news is that Nick is done with chemo and in remission. He has to get labs and scans done every three months because the kinds of cancer he had usually come back to the lungs or brain. Primarily, what Nick is still dealing with is the weight and stress that comes from trying to keep up with his own hospital bills. This has been a greater burden alongside bills from a few surgeries his wife had to undergo shortly before his diagnosis. Nick is no stranger to medical expenses as one of his daughters has had lifelong chronic lung disease.

True to form, Nick went back to work as a scale calibration technician as soon as he possibly could. I know that he is working so much that it is keeping him from the rest and healing that he needs. If anything can be done to at least alleviate some of his financial stress, I know that it will help him immensely. My brother, the epitome of the strong and silent type, will always give far more than he asks for. He will always put the needs of others before his own without hesitation. And that is why I'm asking you for your help.

With about thirteen years between us, I spent my childhood looking up to Nick because of his kindness to me (and maybe also because he let me stay up late with him watching Spongebob and eating sugary cereal). He has always been one of the best examples to me of what a man should be. What I noticed and admired about him when I was a child has remained with him to this day. Nick is generous and steady. He loves his family more than himself. Nick is one of the most resilient and hard-working people I know. Great odds have been against him over the course of his life, but he doesn't complain and isn't bitter. Instead he has striven to make a path for himself to give a good life to his wife and three children, Ayden (17), Ariyah (12), and Harper (6).

Knowing that my brother is facing one of the hardest years of his life, I have hated living in a different state and not knowing how to help. Here is my wish. Now that it is my time to get married, I would love to shower some of the blessings I have been given onto Nick and his family. My fiancé David and  I both feel that we have been given so much and can start our life together comfortably. The greatest gift you can give us is to help my brother in any way you can.  Thank you for reading this, for your consideration, and for your generosity.
