Update- My brother was supposed to start physical therapy March 16th. At his two week follow up with the surgeon, he was told that the tear was so severe that he was unable to start physical therapy just yet. They told him that his knee needed more time to rest and heal. The surgeon finally cleared him to start physical therapy on April 4th and he will be going three times a week. The tear being worse than they expected and his delayed start to physical therapy means that his return to work will be even later than they expected. Unfortunately their insurance does not offer short term disability. So the family remains a single income family for the time being. Thank you all for your support and help during this time. Hi, my name is Stephanie Houghton. On February 19th, while teaching his daughter to use the snowblower, my brother Nick Baker fell on the ice and ruptured his patellar tendon. After a long evening in the ER, the doctors told Nick that he needed surgery. The surgery was done on February 28th. The surgeon said this was one of the worst patellar tendon tears he had ever seen and described the tendon as looking like a frayed rope. The surgery was longer than they were initially expecting due to the severe damage to the tendon.

This past October, my brother and his wife Dani were married. They are now a blended family with four amazing kids, ranging from 16 to 3. This injury has dramatically affected their lives and income. My brother has not been able to work since he fell. His doctors have told him that they do not think he will return to work for another four months. They also predict that it will be another nine months before he can walk normally. They have gone down to being a family with only one income while their expenses have exploded due to growing medical costs.
